First Legal Same Sex Marriage at Sea
Thanks to a groundbreaking vote in Malta, where the majority of the Celebrity fleet is registered, same-sex marriages are now officially recognized. The decision, passed with an overwhelming majority in parliament, means that Celebrity can now make history by hosting legal same-sex marriage ceremonies on board their ships, with the captains proudly officiating.
Imagine saying "I do" surrounded by the endless expanse of the sea. It's not just a dream anymore – it's a reality. In January 2018, Francisco Vargas and Benjamin Gray made history by becoming the first same-sex couple ever to be legally married at sea on a major cruise line, aboard the magnificent Celebrity Equinox®.
